Craig Payne’s Nanchang CJ-6A

I am the first civilian owner; receiving this aircraft from the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force(PLAAF) in 1995. This aircraft logged over 13,000 landings over 2102 hours in both military and base flying club service. Since then I have logged over 1000 hours. The original engine was changed over to a Russian M-14P in 2000, along with the propeller, exhaust system, cooling shutters and spinner.

In 1995, N285CJ took Grand Champion Warbird at the EAA North Central Fly-in when it was in original condition as imported. Since then, the aircraft was raced in several Sun 60 events, that is why the extra fairings were installed as well as 75 horsepower added.

Currently, the engine is equipped with an electronic ignition conversion of my own design as well as other modifications I sell through Payne Aviation LLC. In 2006, I painted the airframe silver with all of the original markings.
